IT PRIDES itself on being Southampton’s only authentic Irish bar, and it opened its door for the first time this Halloween.
Shenanigans Irish Bar is located in the heart of the city in Carlton Place.
It specialises in products from the emerald isle including beers and spirits.
Shenanigans claim to be the only pub in the city to sell Citra beer.
It also offers Chieftain IPA, Caffrey’s Ale and Guinness.
There is live music every night from Friday to Sunday with a “sing-along” atmosphere and Celtic theme.
To keep punters entertained there are six wide-screen televisions showing all the latest sporting events such as football, rugby, Gaelic football hurling and even the American National Football League.
There are plans to offer fresh sandwiches, pastries and coffee as well as to eventually put in a commercial kitchen to offer “traditional Irish
delicacies.”
Shenanigans is owned and managed by Ged Gorrie and his business partner Bill Dearsley.
Originally from Edinburgh - but of Irish heritage - Ged has worked in the hospitality sector for the last 35-years having managed nightclubs along the south coast and in London.
He opened the bar on the premise that Southampton has “always lacked a cosy Irish boozer”.
Ged said: “This is an exciting venture, we had a great opening weekend and already have lots of happy customers.
“I ran Oceana nightclub for many years, plus nightclubs around the south coast, so I am very familiar with Southampton. We thought it was a good location as there is a good mix of locals and students in the area.
“The response from the community has been superb.”
Based in Lower Swanwick, Ged enjoys sports, travelling and spending time with his partner.
