PASSENGERS are being urged to claim compensation following the "horrendous" incident when a train derailed coming out of Eastleigh station yesterday.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, travellers faced a day of cancellations and disruption across the south due to the derailment, in which no one was injured.

The large freight train derailed from the tracks at Eastleigh Station at 11.32am yesterday and commuters have been facing long delays and cancellations ever since.

Network Rail have since warned passengers that they will face major disruption today (Thursday) as they try to repair the damage caused by yesterday's incident.

Daily Echo:

A spokesman said they were trying to remove the carriages last night with a view to repairing the damaged tracks today.

How can I claim compensation?

Anyone travelling on South Western Railway can follow this procedure if their journey is delayed by 15 minutes or more.

Train users can apply for Delay Repay 15 compensation by using the secure online form at delayrepay.southwesternrailway.com or via the SWR mobile app, available from the App Store or Google Play.

Those who prefer to complete a paper compensation form can pick one up at any staffed SWR station.

While customers are eligible for up to 25 per cent of the cost of a single journey ticket for delays between 15 to 29 minutes, delays of 30 minutes or more will still be compensated at the previous rate.

Claims must be received within 28 days of the delay and include the original ticket, receipt or copy of the season ticket.
