A SOUTHAMPTON school which was evacuated after pupils were put in isolation over Coronavirus fears remains closed.
St Mary’s Independent School in Bitterne Park is still on lockdown after fears pupils may have caught the deadly virus.
Parents rushed their children away from the premises in Midanbury Lane on Monday after students at the school were struck down with symptoms similar to the virus.
St Mary’s is closed while it is deep cleaned and to remove any potential traces of the virus.
The sick youngsters have since put themselves in isolation following checks by medical professionals at Southampton General Hospital.
However, according to a spokesperson at the hospital, there are no confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight.
St Mary’s has been in contact with Public Health England (PHE) which is monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, PHE has issued advice to stop the virus from spreading.
Members of the public are urged to carry tissues and use them to “catch” their cough or sneeze.
They should then bin the tissue, and wash their hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
People should wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport.
To avoid contracting Coronavirus people should avoid touching their face with unwashed hands and avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
The news comes after eight people in the UK being diagnosed with the virus.
