A SOUTHAMPTON landlord has been left terrified after being dragged through his pub and pelted with glasses.

Brendan James was kicked, punched and slapped during a vicious attack at the Regent’s Park Hotel.

The 36-year-old had been preparing for a party of 50 people at the pub in Regent’s Park Road on Saturday, February 15.

He told the Echo that at about 4pm he asked a group of four men who had been drinking heavily since midday that he could only serve them a “few more drinks” before they had to leave.

According to the landlord the men seemed reasonable at first.

However, when he went outside for a cigarette they grabbed him and dragged him inside before throwing him around the pub.

Five more men joined the original group of four, kicking and punching him.

They then cornered Brendan behind the bar where they slapped him and pelted him with glasses.

After the “terrifying” ordeal the group threatened Brendan that they would return.

He had never seen the men before and was working with a young barmaid at the time who was left unharmed.

The publican has since handed in his notice and plans on returning to London.

Brendan said: “I fear for my own safety so I am going.

“I do not want to leave –I like the place and have got to know the locals. It’s my

home.

“I have been sleeping in my clothes so I can escape if I need to.

“I have been dreaming about what happened.

“It has left me shaken up.

A police spokesperson said: “We are investigating after a man was assaulted at the Regents Park Pub between 4.30pm and 5pm on Saturday (February 15).
