COASTGUARD officials were called out after a tent was spotted on a Purbeck cliff-top as temperatures dropped on Tuesday night.
The team based at Lulworth was called out just after 6pm after receiving reports of a pitched tent from a member of the public.
An official said: "With the last of evening light and a bitingly cold northwesterly wind, the team assembled and conducted hasty search of the given grid reference.
"On the western edge of Stair Hole the team found a green tent. Occupancy was established when a man appeared and made his way towards the team.
"The man explained that he and his friend were well prepared for a cold evening, and were there to photograph the sunrise.
"The team explained the dangers of camping in their location and bid them a good evening."
