M27 closed between J2 and J3 outside Southampton

A person was hit by a vehicle at around 4.20am in a serious collision, according to police.

The M27 westbound is now closed between J3 near Nursling and J2 near Ower.

Traffic officers are on the scene managing traffic.

Meanwhile, motorists are being urged to allow extra time when travelling. 

Diversions are in place northbound towards Romsey.

Officers are urging people to drive with extra caution to reduce pressures on the NHS amid the coronavirus crisis.

A police spokesperson said: "We are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision on the M27 where a pedestrian was in collision with a vehicle at around 4.20am (Fri 10 April). The westbound carriageway is currently closed between J3 and J2."
