A CELEBRATED Guide and Scout show which was cancelled for the first time in 63 years was turned into an uplifting online video instead.
Roverang, the variety show for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, was due to take to the stage at Nuffield Southampton Theatres campus venue for the 53rd time at the weekend - the final show before its closure for refurbishment.
A cast of over 120 young people aged between six and 25 had been rehearsing for the show since September 2019.
A video, which premiered on what would have been the show's finale on Saturday night, showed them performing sketches from the show in their own homes.
As the video was unveiled, a statement said: “We promised you something special to mark what should have been the final performance of our show run this year, an extra special year in Roverang’s history as we say goodbye to our home since 1966, The Nuffield Theatre in the form we know and love with it closing for a major refurbishment. We would have been the final show to grace the stage and whilst that will no longer happen we wanted to say our farewell and also give you a glimpse of what to expect when Roverang 2020 eventually sees the light of day somewhere, somewhen, once this pandemic is beaten."
