Callum Dunham punched his female victim in the face repeatedly.
The 21-year-old was spotted holding her by the hair and pulling her towards him.
He only stopped when a motorist drove by during an attack in Bartley on July 4.
His 25-year-old victim was left with black eyes, bad bruising, and swelling to the face.
With spots in her vision she passed out the next day, a court heard.
On July 29, Dunham was jailed at Southampton Magistrates' Court for 24 weeks after pleading guilty to three counts of assault by battery.
However, the scaffolder, of Salisbury Road, Totton appeared before Southampton Crown Court on Friday to appeal his sentence.
Prosecuting barrister, Kitty Kirton told how on June 13 he also assaulted his victim’s mother.
The victim had been at her parents’ home in Copythorne with three friends when Dunham walked past the window and barged into the house uninvited.
He started punching a male friend in the face “multiple times”.
When they tried to pull him off he ran out of the house shouting “who wants to fight me?”
He pushed the victim’s mother in the chest using both hands.
She was shocked by how strong he was and “feared she would have a heart attack” during the incident at around midnight.
A victim statement read out in court said: “I am struggling to sleep at the moment. When I do sleep I have night terrors. This is going to affect me for the rest of my life. He needs help. I think Callum has mental health problems.”
Written almost a month later on July 27 it said how she now takes anti-depressants, has suffered a cardiac arrest, and experiences vertigo.
Dunham has seven convictions for 14 offences which include drugs, assaulting a police officer, and battery.
Defending, Khalid Missouri said how Dunham’s father died when he was nine-years-old which led to bullying and getting in with a bad crowd.
Judge Nicholas Rowland said Dunham should be truly ashamed but mentioned hope for rehabilitation.
On appeal, he was given a 16-week sentence, suspended for two years.
He must complete 200 hours of unpaid work and a rehabilitation requirement of 35 days.
Dunham was also given a restraining order against his victim and her mother.
