A SOUTHAMPTON rap duo is set to have their latest single released on a major urban music platform.

The recent single by Southampton-based rap duo Tyrone and Warbz is set to be released today on national urban music platform GRM Daily.

Called Can’t Relate, it is their fifth release since the start of last year.

It showcases how they continue to make their own way in the industry independent of record labels and management companies.

The track references life growing up on estates around the city, how teachers mocked the duo’s dreams and why trust becomes a problem when it comes to building friendships when carving out a music career.

The pair have racked up more than two million streams on Spotify with their debut album Welcome To SO.

Daily Echo:

They hope to further increase their profile this year in a genre dominated by artists from London and the north.

“The main focus of this track is to highlight how we are doing our own thing, are on our own journey and are yet to have a helping hand from anyone - but we are not doing too badly and we are showing it can be done,” said Tyrone.

“Both Warbz and myself are working tirelessly to make people aware there is an urban, rap, hip hop scene south of London and, ultimately, unite cities so that they all become part of a new era for music on the south coast.”

With a total of more than 500,000 views of their music on YouTube to date, Tyrone and Warbz also supported rapper ZieZie and performed a sold-out headline show at The Joiners in Southampton.

They also reached number six in the iTunes pre-order chart with Welcome To SO - one place below Taylor Swift.

Tyrone is also a member of Southampton-based dance music group FooR.

The group’s single Fresh featured on an advert for beer Coors Light earlier this year.

Daily Echo:

He teamed up with Warbz after he featured on a track on the album Friends of FooR, which reached number nine in the Official Dance Charts in 2018.

Tyrone added: “These are exciting times for us as we have lots going on and people are positive about our music, our ambitions and what we want to achieve for urban music across the south.

“At the moment we want to just keep doing our thing and sharing our music and our vision with as many people as possible, hopefully helping to cement Southampton and the south coast’s urban scene in the process.”
