A SOUTHAMPTON mum was subjected to racist abuse after confronting a gang of children who assaulted her young son.
It came after an eight-year-old Asian boy had been surrounded by a group of ten to eleven-year-old's, said police.
Officers added that the youngster was then assaulted and knocked to the ground.
The victim ran home to his mother who then attended the play park to try and reason with the children.
But as she tried to talk to the gang she was racially abused and had a scooter thrown at her.
The incident happened between 3.30pm and 4.30pm at the Veracity Ground located on Merry Oak Road yesterday (Friday).
Police in Southampton have now issued an appeal to find the children.
A police spokesman said: "Police would like to know the identity of these children so that they can be spoken to accordingly, as this appears to be an entirely unprovoked and unnecessary incident.
"Any information is gratefully received, please report any information online or via 101 at your earliest convenience.
"We would also like to remind parents to be aware of where their children are and aware of their behaviour whilst they are in public places."
