AN ARTIST has been busy in Southampton bringing a road closure scheme to life.
Kev Munday, has transformed two concrete bollards at the Bedford Place road closure into colourful works of art.
With his iconic style incorporating bold lines and a lot of colour, he has painted walls, furniture and vehicles in the past.
The artist claims his goal is to make people "think and smile at the same time" and he hopes that his work "communicates as much to a seven year old kid as it does to a serious art collector."
He was commissioned by Southampton City Council in partnership with GO! Southampton and Solent Showcase Gallery to create the eye catching features.
Kev wrote on Facebook: "Brightening up 'the new normal'. Spray paint on concrete road blockades.
"Great to get out and paint in the wild for the first time in ages."
The pedestrianisation of the city road was put in place by the council on August 21 as part of the Southampton Inside Out initiative to create more space for walking and help local businesses introduce or extend their outdoor seating.
A statement by the council read: "Thanks to his creative efforts, two concrete bollards installed as part of the scheme now bring a vibrant splash of colour to this popular area of the city centre."
On top of this project, Kev has also been working elsewhere in Southampton including brightening up some benches for the city centre.
The benches were removed from the high street to allow for social distancing whilst they were decorated, and Kev, together with other artists painted the colourful new designs on to them.
