HOW would you like a help design a new part of Southampton?

Well, now is your chance.

Residents are being urged to say what they would like an area of the city to look like in the future.

Locals are asked to help shape plans for future development in the area between Southampton Central railway station and the waterfront.

It comes as a masterplan for the so-called Mayflower Quarter is currently being prepared.

A public consultation on the final plan is expected to be launched next year.

But residents have time until December 31 to tell civic chiefs and developers what they would like to see in the plan.

As reported, homes, shops, offices and leisure attractions could be built at the 84-hectare site.

The plan was first unveiled by Southampton City Council last year.

Civic chiefs are now asking residents to identify what challenges and opportunities the masterplan should address  and to tell city leaders what the area should be like by 2040.

Earlier this year AR Urbanism was appointed to create a masterplan.

Cllr Jacqui Rayment, deputy leader and cabinet member for customer and organisation, said: “This development project will firmly establish Southampton on the global stage. This is a great opportunity for everyone in Southampton to tell us what they envisage for Mayflower Quarter as AR Urbanism finalise the masterplan before consultation on the Mayflower Quarter masterplan early next year.”

Amanda Reynolds, director of AR Urbanism, said:“This masterplan seeks to create an active green heart to the city with improved connections to the city centre and waterfront, making Mayflower Quarter a more attractive and usable place for all. A key consideration is ensuring we develop a futureproof masterplan, positively meeting climate change challenges and offering sustainable solutions for the future.”

As previously reported, the development of the Leisure World site, off West Quay Road, is also part of the Mayflower Quarter scheme. To have your say visit placebuilder.io/mayflowerquarter.
