SOUTHAMPTON has been named as one of the least festive places to live in the UK.

StressNoMore, an online health and wellbeing retailer, has analysed three years’ of data about the nation’s festive Googling habits to find the places with an abundance of Christmas spirit.

Researchers say they studied information from 50 towns and cities across the UK.

Daily Echo:

They discovered that Christmas spirit levels in Southampton are the seventh lowest in UK, with the city scoring just 11 out of 100 on the Clausometer scale.

A spokesperson said: "It's clear that 'festive feeling' doesn’t come naturally to all of us.

"It seems Southampton residents get most excited about Christmas trees, decorations, songs and advent calendars over the festive period, but are less likely to put up Christmas lights outside their houses or be found writing cards to family and friends. And they definitely don’t enjoy a Christmas pudding."

According to StressNoMore Slough has lowest levels of Christmas spirit in the UK, scoring just two out of 100 on the Clausometer.

A spokesperson said: "Slough residents are most interested in putting up a Christmas tree, but are less fussed about Christmas cards, films and gifts.

"Other places where Christmas spirit is low across the UK are Newcastle (6/100), Nottingham (6/100), Bristol (10/100) and Manchester (11/100).

"By comparison, Leicester has been crowned the most festive place to live in the UK, scoring the highest on Santa’s Clausometer for Christmas cheer - 99 out of 100."

The spokesperson said Leicester residents made more seasonal searches on Google than anyone else.

They added: "Festive songs, advent calendars and Christmas trees are what Leicester residents get most excited about during the holidays, while the dinner table divider - the humble Christmas pudding - is the least rated."

Stephanie Taylor is managing director of StressNoMore.

She said: "It’s been really interesting to find out where in the UK has the most Christmas spirit - and where the UK’s biggest Scrooges are likely to live.

“This year has been difficult for all of us and it’s still unclear whether this Christmas will be anything like the one we usually enjoy with our friends and family.

"But no matter what, we hope this festive season provides some light relief and distraction from your everyday stresses, if you love Christmas or not!”
