A FAMILY run takeaway business has supported its community by giving away over £500 worth of food.

Forest Tandoori Indian Takeaway, an award winning family run business in Lymington fed the elderly, vulnerable and low income families for free on Christmas day.

The takeaway never set a limit on how many free meals they could give away and also donated £600 worth of hot meals to NHS staff at New Forest Lymington Hospital.

Members of staff from the takeaway were on hand to deliver the meals in person to the hospital for staff to enjoy whilst working their Christmas day shift.

This followed on from donations during the first national lockdown when the takeaway donated over £1,000 to hospitals, care homes and ambulance services in the region.

One family member who doesn't work at the takeaway, Shima Miah said: "They are really the unsung heroes of our community and deserve recognition for their selflessness.

"With small businesses struggling to survive, this family-run business continues to do their bit for the community and put those in need first not worrying about what impact it will have on their business by giving away free food.

"The staff sacrificed their own time to help others on a day that could’ve been spent at home with their families.

"They really are the unsung Covid heroes and deserve recognition for their hard work and dedication to help those in need.

Earlier this year, the takeaway won a prestige award at the Good Food Awards 2021.
