ONE MAN was left with a fractured jaw and another needing stitches when a fight erupted in a residential street, a court heard.

Marc Traves was "tooled up" with a crowbar when he stepped out of his Vauxhall Corsa.

The 29-year-old had driven to Brookside in Totton with "at least one other" - one of whom was carrying a wheel brace.

Prosecution barrister, Mark Ashley told how Traves of Barters Close in Millbrook struck one resident, with the blow causing his "tooth to go through his through his lip".

Another resident was struck over the head and suffered a fractured jaw during the incident on June 2, 2018, a court heard.

Traves appeared before Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday faced with a single count of affray.

Prosecution barrister, Mark Ashley said that charges against a co-defendant were dropped due to a lack of evidence.

Mr Ashley told how residents had "noticed a number of lads sat on the front wall" of a home in Brookside.

They had been concerned due to recent thefts.

The group was asked to leave "only to return later in the evening" in a vehicle driven by Traves - who had not been there earlier.

Traves claimed he did not know why he was going to Brookside and was not aware of "previous issues".

He pleaded guilty on this basis and that he had not used the crowbar.

During a police interview, he told officers he had suffered some injuries himself.

Traves has previous convictions for possessing a bladed article, disorderly behaviour and two matters relating to drugs.

Defending, Chris Gaiger said that his client has expressed his remorse and that his behaviour on that night was not acceptable.

Mr Gaiger argued that Traves has personal difficulties including anxiety, ADHD and Aspergers.

During sentencing, Judge Peter Henry scolded Traves saying that all the residents wanted was a quiet evening.

However, one "ended up with extremely serious injuries".

Judge Henry warned that had Traves used the crowbar he would be "going down the steps behind him" in the dock.

He was given a ten-month sentence, suspended for two years.

He will be subject to a four-month electronically monitored curfew from 6pm to 6am.

Traves must also pay £500 in compensation to his victim.
