TRAIN LINES around Southampton are set to close for work on the railway.
Lines through and nearby to the city will be closed from February 13 to February 19 and replacement bus services will be operating instead.
The closures are due to upgrades being made to the railway to accommodate longer freight trains, "unlocking more capacity at one of the busiest parts of the UK’s freight network".
When this work is complete Network Rail claims there will be less lorries on the roads as a result therefore cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions.
The line is also set to be closed on January 30 and January 31.
Below is a list of the line closures and when they will be in place:
- Saturday 30 January: Lines from Southampton Airport Parkway to Brockenhurst and Romsey to Redbridge will be closed.
- Sunday 31 January: Lines from Eastleigh to Brockenhurst, Romsey to Redbridge, Brockenhurst to Bournemouth and St Denys to Fareham will be closed.
- Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February: Lines from Eastleigh to Brockenhurst, Romsey to Redbridge and St Denys to Woolston will be closed.
- Monday 15 to Friday 19 February: Line from Southampton Central to Romsey and Brockenhurst will be closed.
