A NEW clubhouse could be created at a Hampshire golf course as well as 60 parking spaces.

An application submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council proposes the creation of the new clubhouse at Boundary Lakes Golf Course at the Ageas Bowl in West End.

Having opened in July 2017, the golf course has hosted many celebrities and cricket players including Sir Ian Botham who previously referred to the course as "excellent" and a great venue.

The new development at the course would be accessed from Moorhill Road and include the main building, a golf cart store, a private car parking area made up of 60 spaces, and a collection and drop off point.

Inside the building there would be a bar, lounge, kitchen, changing facilities, professional shop, and a single bedroom stewards flat.

The 18 hole golf course currently uses the nearby, Hilton Hotel for changing rooms, its shop, studio and bar.

Applicant, Land and Development Advisory Ltd and Rb Sports and Leisure Holdings Ltd, claim in the application that this has caused “practical conflict” in the past between the golf club and nearby, Hampshire County Cricket Club.

The applicant said: “There is a clear business case for a new club house and car park to be provided, in such a way that there is no resultant conflict with the cricket club.”

Director of golf at Boundary Lakes, Shaun Hall, said: "This is an ongoing part of the master plan for the whole site.

"The plan is to try and make the course as good and as vibrant as possible.

"Its all about adding value for the members and them having the best experience."

The new clubhouse would be located in the South West corner of the golf course, a site which is close to three homes, as well as falling within the councils strategic gap and countryside.

No objections have been submitted to the application but one nearby resident did comment saying: “Since Boundary Lakes Ageas Bowl opened we have been plagued with golf balls coming over into our property.

“It seems ironic that money can be found for a new clubhouse and all the associated buildings and parking, however, funds cannot be found for the safety of residents.”

The application is set to be discussed by Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee on Monday at 7pm.

It has been referred to the committee because it is a “major” development.

The committee has been recommended to delegate the application back to the head of housing and development management, in consultation with the chair, vice-chair and local ward councillors to grant permission.
