POLICE say a 12-year-old Southampton boy has admitted vandalising buses in the city.
It follows a spate of incidents in which Bluestar and City Red buses travelling through Millbrook have had windows smashed and doors damaged.
Last week it was announced that police would start travelling on buses in a bid to combat the vandalism.
Bluestar said it was working with Hampshire Constabulary to ensure services in Millbrook were not hindered as they transported key workers and those making essential journeys.
Last night Southampton Cops tweeted: "Update on bus damage in the Southampton West area.
"Neighbourhood Officers from Redbridge have this evening interviewed a 12-year-old male from Southampton for being in possession of catapults, a lock knife and causing criminal damage to buses in the Millbrook area.
"The youth has admitted to the offences and we continue to investigate and tackle the problem.
"The buses are a vital link for many of the residents in the community and vital for our key workers, emergency workers and NHS staff who are working tirelessly and under the most immense pressure.
"If anyone has any information about person causing damage to buses in our community please speak to us.
"You can, if you prefer, speak to Crimestoppers anonymously."
