Mother's Day falls on Sunday March 14 this year and with spring and the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions in sight, there is definitely reason to celebrate.
PM gives date for when lockdown will end
However the country remains in lockdown, so people might be left wondering what to do for their mums this year.
What can't you do?
Unfortunately meeting in groups outside of family bubbles is still not allowed, which rules out a roast with all the family.
But there are still ways to show your appreciation to the mother figures in their life.
What can you do?
Last month, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced in his roadmap out of lockdown that schools will open from Monday March 8.
Covid-19: New measures as Southampton schools are set to reopen
From this date, meeting one other person outside of your family bubble in a socially distanced way is allowed.
Here are some ideas of how to celebrate with your mum in lockdown.
1. Going for a spring walk or picnic
With the change of rules from Monday, meeting your mum one-on-one for a picnic or walk in the park would be a great way to enjoy each other's company - likely for the first time in a while.
2. Send a letter
Everyone likes receiving a handwritten letter in the post. Sure the shops are full of generic Mother's Day Cards but taking the time to tell your mum just how much you appreciate her in your own words could be to her a silver lining of lockdown.
3. Crafts
Handmade gifts are a great way to show your parent just how special they are to you. So whether it's painting, cross-stitch or woodwork, getting creative could be great to make your mum smile and beat lockdown boredom.
4. Buying a giftcard or treatment
Spas, restaurants, cinemas...many people have spent the time in lockdown dreaming about what they'd like to do when restrictions are lifted. So why not give your mum something to look forward to by purchasing a gift voucher or experience such as a massage.
5. Breakfast in bed
Though not everyone's cup of tea, this Mother's Day classic is sure to please a lot of mums, step-mums and grandmas out there.
6. Order a take-away
With many local restaurants now offering take-away options, taking care of dinner might be the simple treat your mum needs, all whilst supporting local businesses.
So if you choose to get mud on your boots or paint on your hands for this Mother's Day, here's hoping the Mums in Hampshire realise how appreciated they are and how much they have been missed this year.
