A FIVE-CAR pile-up blocked a Hampshire motorway leaving four people injured.

A black Vauxhall Corsa lost control on the northbound M3 ploughing into a Skoda saloon and then into the central reservation.

It then flipped onto the other side of the motorway where it crashed into three more vehicles - including a Vauxhall Combo van, a blue Mini Cooper and a silver Ford Fiesta Zetec.

Emergency services raced to assist with the traffic incident which happened between Junctions 10 and 11 at around 5.26pm on Monday.

According to police, the driver and front-seat passenger of the Ford Fiesta Zetec, both men in their 50s, were rushed to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

The driver of the Corsa, a man in his 20s, received minor injuries to his arm.

Meanwhile, a passenger in the Vauxhall Combo van, a man in his 20s, suffered minor hand and face injuries.

At the time he southbound carriageway, as well as two lanes of the northbound carriageway, were closed.

The carriageway has since reopened, and a police investigation has been launched to establish exactly what happened.

No arrests have been made at this time.
