A SOUTHAMPTON school has created a range of art work to recognise the teaching team receiving their Covid-19 vaccinations.

Children and staff from Rosewood Free School, a school for children with profound multiple learning difficulties, have created and donated some beautiful artwork to the Solent NHS Trust-run Southampton large-scale vaccination centre at Oakley Road.

The artwork, which is a heartfelt thank you to everyone working at the vaccination centre, was presented to two nurses by 11-year-old, George Simper.

In line with JCVI guidance, staff from Rosewood Free School, who undertake regular health care duties with clinically vulnerable children and young people, recently visited the Southampton vaccination centre to have their Covid-19 vaccinations.

As a way of showing their gratitude, they created a competition for the children in school to create a piece of artwork for the centre.

Headteacher of Rosewood Free School, Zoe Evans, explained: “We were just hugely impressed as a team at how well everything was organised, and how kind everyone was.

"We wanted to say a big Rosewood thank you.

"The children really enjoyed taking part in the competition and it was wonderful to be able celebrate the brilliant people involved in the vaccination programme with them."

Zoe continued: “The judging was really difficult.

"The winning design was a collective piece of work, with every child's handprint or footprint made into a rainbow.”

Angela Anderson, Clinical Director of the Solent NHS Trust vaccination programme, and Julie Sizer, Team Leader, Solent Vaccination Centre, recently visited the school to collect the children’s artwork.

Angela said: “It was such a great moment to be presented the artwork by George and his mum.

"There were some wonderful competition entries and beautiful artwork.

"All of the team at the vaccination centre are so grateful for the artwork and it has pride of place in the centre.”
