In reply to Angela Cotton, March 4, she conveniently neglects to state that London City is essentially a commuter or business airport flying only to local airports, the farthest, according to its own website being either Chambery, central France or Billund in Denmark.
Further, their own website again affirms that aircraft will on occasion not be fully loaded because of their maximum take off weight and the runway length.
One manufacturer actually produces a short take off airliner specifically for such airports as London City.
As for the assertion that more people are affected by noise from Southampton than are affected in the east end of London, this I really cannot believe.
Both airports share the ability to send their aircraft over the sea within minutes, London airport is close to one of the most developing communities in the east London area, Stratford and the Lea Valley, and to the west the heart of London city.
