OH, THE irony with politicians.

A letter from (Labour councillor) David Shields was recently posted through the letterboxes of occupants of Westrow Gardens, which included remarks expressing concern regarding the "uncontrolled spread of houses of multiple occupation (HMOs) in his ward.

A few years ago Councillor Shields chaired a council meeting when he cast his vote in favour of allowing an HMO in Westrow Gardens.

This was despite the written protestations of 90% of residents and attendance, on the evening, of a large majority of them. (The vote having been tied along party lines).

At the same meeting the council also voted for the erection of a multi-purpose block in Vermont Close ; the rationale (sic) being that "family homes should not be converted for the use of (eg) flats".

Completely at odds with their decision to approve said HMO.

The (Labour) councillor for Swaythling retorted "share the load".

I believe that to have been her honest opinion but, please, Councillor Shields, spare us the hypocrisy.
