PLANS have been submitted to convert an old church hall into three new homes in a Hampshire village.

On February 19, an application was submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council to convert Bursledon Congregational Church on School Road, Bursledon, into three new homes.

The application states that all homes will be two bedroom and will all come with their own private garden and parking spaces.

Previously used as a church hall and a nursery, it is said that the building hasn’t been operational for the last nine years and has since been used as storage space.

The existing access from Spring Road would be retained with the entrance widened to allow for three parking spaces.

One of the homes would also have a garage with one parking space which would be built into the existing building and six new rooflights would be added.

In the application, ADP Chartered Architects Ltd, on behalf of the applicant Mr A Loizou, claims that the building is not listed, but has been chosen for conversion rather than redevelopment to maintain the character of the area.

The look of the building would stay mostly the same from the outside, with the architects claiming: “The conversion will be carried out in a manner sensitive to the established character of the building and that will enhance its appearance within the immediate locality.”

All three homes are said to fall below the affordable housing threshold and now a consultation is set to take place until April 9 for residents to voice their opinions.

The statutory decision date for the application has been set for April 16. This is the second time that plans have been submitted for the building with an application to build six apartments there withdrawn in June last year.
