FACE coverings couldn't mask the beaming smiles of their families as Sara and Darren Cook defied Covid to tie the knot.

The couple enjoyed glorious weather for a garden party in a family garden, which followed their ceremony at Southampton Register Office.

Their six children were among 14 delighted guests on the big day, which took place on August 22 2020.

Groom Darren signed up sons Ryan and Owen to be by his side throughout.

Bride Sara had her daughters Lyla and Grace and stepdaughter Felicity as her bridesmaids.

The couple's baby daughter Naomi made a very cute addition to the bridal party.

Sara and Darren, who live in Totton, decided to stick with their plan to wed last summer despite Covid restrictions.

They had to reduce their planned 80 guests to just 14 and switch venues, plus there were temperature checks for the bride and groom and masks for some of their guests during the ceremony.

But everything ran smoothly and the whole wedding party enjoyed the more 'chilled' atmosphere of an intimate celebration.

Here the beautiful bride tells us more:

(Q) How and where did you get engaged?

At Brooklands Hotel in Surrey in August 2017. Darren had laid out rose petals on the bed spelling out ‘will you marry me?’

(Q) Did Covid have any impact on your wedding plans?

(A) We were meant to have 30 day guests and a further 50 evening guests at The Vestry in Southampton, but due to Covid, we were unable to have our venue on the date we wanted.

The registrar was booked and rather than postpone, we just got married at the registry office with 14 guests.

(Q) What are your best memories of the day?

(A) Everything was nice and chilled and everyone enjoyed themselves. There were plenty of smiling faces all round.

(Q) What was the most stressful part of organising your wedding?

(A) Trying to plan it through Covid. We only found out we could get married three weeks before we did.

I also found out late in the day that I could have my hair and make up done.

(Q) Did you have a first dance?

(A) No we had this in private at home.

(Q) Do you have anything else you’d like to add?

(A) Everything went smoothly and everyone had a lovely day. The weather was rainy in the morning but by 1pm the sun had come out and the rest of the day was glorious.
