NATHAN Redmond led the charge as Saints booked their spot in a Wembley FA Cup semi-final with a resounding win over south coast neighbours Bournemouth.

Redmond, who had only netted one goal all season prior to the trip to Vitality Stadium, struck twice and also provided an assist for Moussa Djenepo as Saints marched on in the cup with a 3-0 victory.

Saints, who won this competition in 1976, will move into the last four, a stage they last reached in 2018. The draw is due to take place tomorrow afternoon.

Both sides made two changes from their last league outings. For Saints, loanee Takumi Minamino was unavailable due to being cup-tied, while Nathan Tella dropped to the bench. In came Djenepo and Redmond.

For Cherries, Rodrigo Riquelme and Ben Pearson started with Junior Stanislas injured and Jefferson Lerma suspended, having both started a midweek Championship win over Swansea.

The hosts, playing in just their second FA Cup quarter-final and looking to reach the last four for the first time in their history, were picking the ball out of their net with little over 10 minutes on the clock.

Jan Bednarek sent Kyle Walker-Peters scampering away down the right and the full-back crossed towards Che Adams at the back post. But the ball did not reach the striker with Cherries defender Cameron Carter-Vickers sliding and turning into his own net.

However, after consultation with video assistant referee David Coote, Walker-Peters was ruled marginally offside and the goal was chalked off.

Stuart Armstrong soon got in down the right himself, skipping away from Pearson and teeing up Ryan Bertrand on the edge of the box, but the left-back fired wide.

Forster was called into his first meaningful action midway through the half. The lively Arnaut Danjuma shifted away from Bednarek in the box, but his fierce shot from a tight angle was swatted away by the goalkeeper.

Two more chances quickly fell Bournemouth’s way. Riquelme connected with a Steve Cook cross from the right, but turned wide. The Spaniard then linked up with Dominic Solanke, with his low strike held by Forster.

As the half moved into its final 10 minutes, Saints broke the deadlock.

Walker-Peters fired a pass into Redmond on the halfway line, who sent Djenepo away down the left. The Malian profited from a slip by defender Jack Stacey before neatly slotting into the bottom corner for his second goal of the campaign.

And there was just about time for a second goal before the break. Armstrong flicked the ball on to Redmond on the left, who dribbled across to the other side of the pitch before bursting past a stumbling Cook. The former Norwich City man then produced a finish of the highest quality, smashing past Asmir Begovic to double the lead.

Cherries started the second half strongly with two-time FA Cup winner Jack Wilshere trying his luck from the edge of the box, but the powerful effort crashed into the side netting.

But Saints quickly got back into their stride, with Begovic beaten again. A long ball forward was flicked on by Adams to Armstrong, who teed up the striker again. Adams arrowed a fine low strike into the bottom corner, but VAR chalked the goal off for offside again.

However, the reprieve did not last long for Cherries. With less than an hour on the clock, Saints had added a third goal. Armstrong smashed a shot against the post, but Redmond was alert to guide the rebound into the net for his second of the afternoon.

Woodgate turned to his bench, introducing Sam Surridge, Jaidon Anthony and Chris Mepham and switching to a back three.

Saints continued in their quest for more goals. Armstrong was denied by a fine diving Begovic stop, before Redmond curled narrowly wide in search of a hat-trick.

Hasenhuttl used his bench for the first time with 15 minutes to play, with Jack Stephens and Mohammed Salisu replacing centre-back duo Bednarek and Vestergaard, who had both been booked.

Cherries carved out one late chance for a consolation when Anthony crossed for Surridge, but his header was stopped by Forster, with Saints still yet to concede in the FA Cup this season.
