TRIBUTES have been paid to a "beautiful, intelligent and selfless" woman after she was found dead in her home.

Brooke Cleland-Casey, 32, was found dead by her partner Andrew in their home on July 25 last year.

An inquest, held on March 18, heard how Ms Cleland-Casey, of Edward Road in Fairoak, had spent the day of July 24 at the pub with her partner and friends.

The group had spent the day drinking and the court heard how the couple had had a "really good day".

Sleeping arrangements that night resulted in Ms Cleland-Casey sleeping upstairs and her partner sleeping on the sofa.

The next morning, Ms Cleland-Casey was tragically found hanged on the stairs.

Her sister, Bea, said that her and Ms Cleland-Casey were "extremely close" and that her sister had "high emotional intelligence and awareness".

Bea, who lives in the United States, told the court: "I have a strong belief that Brooke meant to wake up the next morning."

The 28-year-old explained that there was "no pre-planning" or pervious attempts [of suicide] leading up to her death.

Bea explained that Ms Cleland-Casey was feeling pain over a negative pregnancy test.

"Having children was very close to her heart, however this was only a challenge for her," she said.

"We spoke for hours on end during the lockdown, although the world was in crisis, Brooke was not. Brooke had a tendency to be over dramatic while drunk, and I say this without judgement."

Yvette, Ms Cleland-Casey's mother, added: "I always stood in awe of my little daughter.

"We always kept Brooke very close as a family, and Brooke always stayed close."

She explained that Ms Cleland-Casey was a "poised, funny, intelligent and caring" woman.

"I carry grief and such deep anger," she said. "We all must live our lives now with this mistake."

Andrew, Ms Cleland-Casey's partner said: "Up until meeting Brooke, and after, I have never met anyone like her.

"I still miss her, I will always miss her and it just seems so senseless."

A toxicology report found that Ms Cleland-Casey was more than three times over the drink drive limit around the time of her death.

The coroner ruled that Ms Cleland-Casey's death was misadventure.
