A SOUTHAMPTON treatment centre have promised to be on hand over the Easter weekend.

The team at Southampton Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) will be working this bank holiday weekend should should misfortune strike, such as minor illness and injury.

Hospital director for the service at the Royal South Hants Hospital Penny Daniels said: “Easter is traditionally a busy time for us as GPs’ surgeries are closed for the full four days of Easter.

“We provide an alternative to A&E for minor burns, cuts, fractures and illness – and with, on average, shorter waiting times.

"We also have a special children’s area, X-ray facilities and GPs, advance nurse and paramedic practitioners who can prescribe medication – and all this as a walk-in service.”

The centre opens at 8am and the last patient is accepted at 7.30pm.

The NHS service is open to everyone, with no appointments required. People with a new continuous cough, a high temperature or any other signs of Covid-19 are asked not to attend the centre, but instead to contact the NHS 111 helpline where they will be given advice about treatment.
