AS A resident of Weston, having access to Weston Shore has been a real benefit in these times of restrictions.

Whether it's for exercising, walking the dog, or just having the chance to escape the indoor routine for a short period, I think we have all come to appreciate our outdoor spaces a lot more in the last year.

I am writing as I feel disgusted that so little investment has been made in the upkeep and maintenance of Weston Shore by Southampton Council, allowing this great asset for the whole community to fall into disrepair.

Walking along the beach today bins were overflowing, the carpark fencing is disintegrating, just one of the six swings in the children's play area were still attached, and the rest was rusty and dangerous.

The rain shelters haven't been painted or maintained in years.

I know the answer always seems to be that there is no money for these projects, but with most of the changes being cosmetic, a small investment would make a huge difference to the community and peoples' enjoyment of this amazing asset.

This is not just a great location for the people of Weston and Woolston to enjoy, but also for all those in surrounding areas, and I would call on the council to invest more in our open spaces.

I am proud to call Weston home and believe as a community we often get left behind.

I would love to see some of the investment – which always seems directed into the city centre – reallocated to improving access to and enjoyment of the Weston Shoreline.
