PLANS to expand the runway at Southampton Airport have been approved.
After more than 19 hours of deliberations, councillors in Eastleigh have approved plans for the runway to be extended by 164m.
They were approved in a vote of 22 For, 13 Against, and 1 Abstention.
The proposals divided public opinion and were discussed for days.
As reported, some residents and campaigners asked for the plans to be rejected on the grounds of climate change, noise and pollution.
But councillors were also told that the move would create new jobs and boost the local economy.
Planning officers recommended for the plans to be approved.
More to follow.
