FIRE crews from Hampshire tackled a fire at a commercial warehouse overnight, which led to the hospitalisation of two police officers.
The fire took place on Barwell Lane, Gosport, with crews being alerted at 19.31pm.
50 firefighters attended the blaze, and two police officers were hospitalised due to smoke inhalation as a precautionary measure.
Crews from Gosport, Fareham, Portchester, Cosham, Eastleigh, Southsea, Romsey and Alton worked at the scene overnight.
Thirty breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, four main jets and an aerial ladder platform were used.
Residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut to protect from thick smoke affecting the area.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service Station Manager, Rob Sansome, said: ‘This was a large and complex fire involving a single-storey warehouse.
‘Firefighters worked through the night to bring the incident under control and prevent the fire from escalating.’
The fire was extinguished by 00.30am.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
Pictures posted on social media by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service at 8.30pm showed smoke plumes rising from the scene.
