A DRINK driver who was caught almost three times the legal limit has been locked up for 18 weeks.
Paul Ivascanu was stopped behind the wheel of a Mercedes Sprinter on Bridge Road, Sarisbury.
The 42-year-old Romanian national of Derby Road gave a breathalyser reading of 96mgs.
The legal limit is just 35mgs making him 2.7 times the limit.
He was charged with drink driving and failing to surrender custody when he didn't attend court.
He pleaded guilty to all counts.
Appearing before Southampton Magistrates' Court he was jailed for 18 weeks.
According to court documents, the offence was aggravated by the fact he had committed a previous similar offence when he gave a reading of 115mgs - 3.2 times the legal limit.
The documents stated: "This offence shows complete disregard to the law, other motorists and the public at large.
"The defendant both during the offence and subsequently shows little understanding of the harm he could have caused and the criminality of the offence.
"Those who drive in this manner with the attitude displayed and the lack of remorse shown must expect to receive an immediate custodial sentence."
Ivascanu was disqualified for three years and must pay a £128 victim surcharge.
