A TOWN theatre has teamed up with a country park to host a series of outdoor events this May.

The Point Eastleigh has joined forces with Itchen Valley Country Park to put together the "Comedy at the Park" series of events.

Kicking off with two consecutive nights of live comedy, a barbecue and drinks from the park’s Woodland Cafe, the occasion is aimed at letting residents "laugh under the stars" as restrictions are eased.

On May 21, Eryn Tett, Matt Rees and MC Leroy Brito will be on show, before headliner Thanyia Moore takes to the stage.

Previous Funny Women Champion Thanyia has been performing since 2012 and her credits include Mock the Week, Comedy Central’s Virtual Fringe, Drunk Black History and The Dog Ate My Homework.

On May 22, Eleanor Tiernan, Chloe Petts and MC Garrett Millerick will also be in attendance with Taskmaster’s series eight champion Lou Sanders headlining.

Said to be "One of Britain’s most original comedians", Lou co-hosts Mel Giedroyc’s Unforgivable and has also appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Live at the Apollo, QI, Would I Lie to You?, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Richard Osman’s House of Games.

Giles Ward, Outdoor Event Manager at Itchen Valley Country Park said: “We cannot wait to welcome audiences safely and securely to the park for these evening events which will launch our exciting 2021 programme.

"We’re hoping to hear lots of laughing out loud as everyone enjoys live comedy and great food with their friends and family in the beautiful surroundings of Itchen Valley.”

Audiences are being invited to bring their own seating with a 'ticket only' deal or take advantage of the picnic bench and deckchair deals and organisers say the events are being managed in a COVID-secure way with "a number of measures in place to ensure the safety of audience members".

Tickets are priced at £15 with deckchairs priced at £19 and picnic benches at £80.
