SHOPPERS and visitors to Romsey have been treated to one of the first live music performances of the year.
As a teaser for this year's Park Proms event at Broadlands Estate and in a bid to bring more people into the town centre, the people of Romsey were today treated to a live performance from The Travelling Hands.
The Acoustic Roaming Band from London gave three live performances across the town with the first being at the War Memorial park, followed by two more in the town centre.
The band will be playing on both days at Park Proms this year which is due to take place on August 27 and 28 and Michael Hlavaty, Event Director said the team are "delighted to be back doing live music."
"We want to try and help bring people to Romsey and get them spending in the local shops. It's a bit of feel good but also a little bit of a teaser of what's coming this summer.
"I think people are just delighted to hear live music again and its done safely in the right place. It's fantastic to see so many people, safely, socially distanced enjoying themselves and most importantly spending money with local traders."
Along with The Travelling Hands, audiences at Park Proms will also get to watch the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Aled Jones, Laura Wright and Escala on the Friday.
Then on the Saturday, James Morrison, Pixie Lott, Scouting For Girls and Eliza and the Bear will also perform.
Michael added: "I think everyone has definitely learnt it. It's something everyone is looking forward to. It's certainly putting Romsey on the map from a live music point of view.
"Everyone we're talking to is saying it's nice to be back and nice to have something to look forward to and get together with friends and family after a pretty tough year for everyone."
