DEFENDING the removal of the Bitterne Road West bus lanes (Echo, May 28) Royston Smith MP says: “Whilst we must do all we can to accommodate other, greener means of transport, we can’t do that at the detriment to all those legitimately going about their business using cars.”
But how about we turn that around to: “Whilst we must do all we can to accommodate convenient use of polluting personal transport, we can’t do that at the detriment to all those those legitimately going about their business using buses.”
Let’s remember that 30 per cent of the city’s residents don’t own a car, many because they can’t afford one.
They are the ones who will lose out as bus journey times rise again.
