WITNESSES have spoken about the moment an electric scooter rider was taken to hospital after being hit by a car ‘that had rolled back down a hill’.

The incident took place at just after 1pm yesterday afternoon on Athelston Road, Southampton.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

The man suffered injuries, but they were not deemed to be life-threatening, a police spokesperson confirmed to the Echo.

Daily Echo:

An officer at the scene confirmed the man was riding an electric scooter when he was hit by the car.

He added: “A vehicle lost control and ended up rolling back down the road and in course of doing so it’s gone into a wall and unfortunately collided with a gentleman on an electric scooter.”

Lizzie Gladstone, whose wall was hit, added: “A lady lost control on the hill and rolled back into the wall.

“When we heard the noise we came out to make sure they were okay.

“A man was hit and another driver had already called police.”

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “[The patient] was treated at the scene by all our crews and taken to hospital.”
