SOUTHAMPTON City Council has vowed to crack down on motorbike nuisance across the city.
Residents have vented their fury at youths on motorbikes “plaguing the city”.
They have complained of riders racing through parks, riding on pavements and revving their engines at unsociable hours.
Councillor Spiros Vassiliou says that motorcycle nuisance is becoming a big problem in Southampton.
The Tory politician who represents Swaythling says the council is aware of the issue and it is something the new administration wants to prevent from happening.
The cabinet member for communities, culture and heritage has said the council has recognised a lack of things for young people to do.
He told the Daily Echo that the council will be pumping an extra £500,000 into its budget to support youth facilities, clubs, community organisations and activities across Southampton.
He added: “We have already met with the new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and highlighted this issue to her and we will also be meeting soon with the superintendent district commander for Southampton Simon Dodds, where we will also be raising this issue and discussing how the council can work with the Police to stop motorcycle nuisance from happening.
“We will be joint working with the PCC, Police and Council to ensure we do our best to try and combat this problem.”
Many residents previously called for a tougher stance on the issue.
Claire Anderson, 47, from Coxford, said: “Police need to work closely with the local communities and start taking motorbike theft and nuisance riding seriously.”
