The Duke of Wellington, Bugle Street, Southampton
This traditional pub does fish and chips really well according to the reviews.
One reviewer wrote: "Had a great visit with the Duke.
"Great beer selection and an amazing meal of fish and trips. I didn’t catch his name but the manager was working behind the bar and he was very helpful!"
New Forest Bistro Fish and Chips, Hampton Lane
High praise indeed for this venue with reviews ranging from: "We decided to eat out for our fish and chips and chose the New Forest bistro. What a great choice! Great meals for everyone. We will be back again."
To: "Stopped off after morning on the beach - freshly cooked haddock and chips were delicious. Would recommend and certainly will come again when we are next in the area."
Smart Fish Bar, Barnes Lane, Sarisbury Green
Seems like this place has quite a reputation for it's high standard of fish and chip teas.
"It really is the best fish and chips, the staff are friendly, the place is spotless, we travel quite a distance to collect our fish and chips."
"Best fish and chips in the area. We use it regularly and are NEVER disappointed. Chip portion sizes are huge so be careful you don’t go too rash. Medium size fish is pretty large too. They do pies and chicken and other fish and chip shop favourites too."
Top Catch Fish and Chips, Commercial Road
Another plaice with more great reviews: "I use them for the first time yesterday & I had the best fish & chips ever. The service was really friendly & I would highly recommend."
Marina Fish Bar, Hythe
You can grab your order and then sit gazing out onto the water here for the full fish and chip experience.
Reviewers said: "This was the first time we have been here and it certainly won't be the last. The queue is there for a reason! The fish and chips were freshly cooked to order. The tasty cod was cooked in a delicious batter and the chips were fluffy and not at all greasy. The portions were generous. A great start to the weekend!"
"The best fish and chips locally! We only come to Marina Fish Bar now, the portions are good value for money, the curry sauce is delicious. Food is fresh and hot. We recommend to friends when they come to Hythe, and great to take to the beach or locally around hythe to watch the boats go by."
The Little Fryer, West End Road
A traditional fish and chip shop which specialises in gluten free.
"I have used the little fryer for many years, there food is always excellent and staff super friendly cant do enough to help. highly recommend there chicken or veggie burgers they also offer a full gluten free menu as well..."
Another reviewer said: "We were both pleasantly surprised that the 'small portions' were nothing but (very happy!).
"It came as no surprise as to why there are so many good reviews about The Little Fryer and not to mention awards they have won.
"This is the gold standard of fish shops and they really do lead by example.
"But don't take my word for it. Go and visit yourself and taste the difference between this and other fish shops you may have thought (at the time) were your favorite.
"We will be returning."
