COLUMNIST and trained counsellor Fiona Caine answers another set of reader dilemmas.
GETTING ‘PINGED’ IS JEOPARDISING MY JOB
I downloaded the Government Covid app to my phone because I thought it would be a good idea. Now I’m not so sure!
I work in a busy bar and come into contact with loads of people - but never for very long.
I’ve only had one jab so technically I’m still at risk, but I’m only 25 so I don’t think the risk to me is that great, nonetheless, I recognise I could pass Covid on to others.
The thing is, the app pings me messages to isolate almost every day!
The first time it happened, I told my employer and stayed off work, but as soon as I went back, it started pinging again.
I don’t know what to do anymore - I don’t want to lose my job.
FIONA SAYS: THE CURRENT GUIDANCE IS IN PLACE FOR A REASON
The app has always been voluntary to download, and any alerts are advisory.
Nonetheless, the government are encouraging people to self-isolate if they are pinged through the app.
There has been a lot of criticism of the app lately with complaints that it has been sending out so many alerts that hundreds of thousands of people are self-isolating and missing work.
It is causing widespread disruption and people in hospitality - like you - as well as those in supermarkets, working in transport and other similar places have been crippled by the effects.
WHY IS MY HUSBAND SO CRITICAL?
I’ve just about had it with my husband’s constant criticism of me!
I have stuck if for the last 17 years because of the children, but I just can’t cope with any more of his constant carping on.
He takes every opportunity to put me down in public and if I tell him I didn’t like it, he says he was only teasing.
He thinks he’s being witty for the benefit of others and that I am being over-sensitive.
How do I get him to stop?
FIONA SAYS: YOU MUST DECIDE WHETHER TO LEAVE OR SEEK COUNSELLING TOGETHER
t sounds as though your husband has developed techniques for making you feel like a loser or the one to blame, whether you respond to his criticism or not.
In this seemingly no-win situation, it’s no wonder you are angry and frustrated.
You need to make it very clear to him that enough is enough. If he doesn’t care then you have a decision to make.
Do you put up with this indifference or move on? Only you can decide.
