MAJOR works to improve a railway footbridge are scheduled to take place in Southampton this weekend.
Network Rail is due to begin works on the footbridges a Millbrook Railway Station to address safety issues and replace the bridge.
The Millbrook footbridge, between the southern foot/cycleway on Millbrook Road West and the island platform at Millbrook Station, was replace in April this year and is to be connected to footbridge cross Millbrook Road West.
The work is due to be complete in autumn this year.
The work is to start at midnight tonight (July 30) and finish at midday tomorrow, which will see the closure of Paynes Road.
A diversion route will be in place and there will be signs erected to inform pedestrians that the footpath and cycleway is closed.
The further installations are due to take place September 4 and 5, it will provide a direct connection between Foundry Lane and the station.
Southampton City Council has said it is also developing a programme of works to renew its section of the footbridge, including new and enhanced step-free access from Foundry Lane and the southern foot/cycleway on Millbrook Road West, which is expected to be delivered in a phased approach.
This maintenance will include a full strip-down and repaint, together with new surfacing across the bridge deck. To carry out this work the existing footbridge will be craned out of position and taken off-site.
