Los Marinos
A restaurant by day, drinking spot by night.
Los Marinos was located on the waterfront at Ocean Village and was the nearest Southampton ever really got to a waterfront venue.
Los Marinos managed to cling on to life while all else around it left Ocean Village. But when Canute’s Pavillion was demolished it spelt the end for the much-loved establishment.
The Square Balloon
The Square Balloon on Above Bar was formerly the ABC cinema and was best known for its huge rotating screens above the bar and a vast menu of expensive cocktails.
The dress code was strict and always enforced – if you weren’t wearing shoes, you weren’t getting in.
The venue was later renamed Squares and remained as such until it changed to become Provenance in 2012.
It soon changed to Myth and finally to Switch.
McClusky's International
McClusky’s was a popular club still thought of fondly by so many.
The venue was once renamed 426 before quickly reverting back.
It was demolished in 2014 to become houses and flats.
Jumpin’ Jaks
Duelling pianos, Spinny Man and the barn dance theme would draw in the clubbers -most of them queuing across the foyer of Leisure World even if it was empty inside.
Revellers were covered in the unmentionable when, in February 2003, a sewage pipe exploded over the dance floor. It was estimated that a crowd of 750 people were inside the night-spot when the pipe became detached.
Saints footballers Matt Le Tissier and Claus Lundekvam could often be found enjoying a night out in the corner.
Walkabout
It's difficult to believe that Walkabout has been gone from our High Street for 12 years now.
The Australian-themed bar, which was based on High Street, shut in 2009 and was rebranded as Wahoo! before becoming Element Sports Bar.
Its green and gold branding will be forever etched in the memories of those who spent their evenings dancing or their afternoons watching football and rugby on the TVs.
