A NEW Forest marina has become the first in the UK to benefit from hyper-connected Wi-Fi.

Berthon Lymington Marina now boasts the latest generation of Wi-Fi connectivity, known as Wi-Fi 6 which is expected to deliver tangible benefits to the 250 berth holders at the site.

Installed by an independent owner and operator of shared wireless infrastructure, Shares Access, Wi-Fi 6 incorporates several new technologies to improve network performance and is said to be especially suited to heavily congested wireless environments like marinas.

Berthon now has 19 new Wi-Fi 6 access points, supplied by a 1000Mbps broadband connection, giving full coverage to the entire marina.

Brian May, Managing Director, Berthon: “Everyone expects connectivity in all aspects of their lives now, but we are the first marina in the UK to prioritise this service.

"Installing Wi-Fi 6 across the marina enables us to continue providing the very highest levels of customer service. We can now guarantee super fast, reliable and secure connectivity for all our boat owners and visitors.

“This new level of connectivity is really exciting for the marina and we’re looking at different ways to leverage it and create an even more fulfilling experience for our customers.

"We’ve always been committed to delivering the very best service for our berth holders and I’m really proud that with Shared Access’ support, we’re setting new standards for marinas.”

The new connectivity is said to benefit berth holders in a number of ways with owners with on-board CCTV cameras now able to confidently connect their system, knowing that the signal will never drop out.

Sam Jackman, Chief Development Officer, Shared Access: “Our extensive knowledge of designing mobile network installations has enabled us to provide a state-of-the-art Wi-Fi 6 for Berthon.

"Berth holders are now experiencing super fast and secure connectivity that allow multiple devices per berth to connect seamlessly with uninterrupted streaming and immediate downloads.

"The new network is extremely secure, making it ideal for remote working and there is also the opportunity to review and incorporate new technologies in the future as needs grow and change.”
