A MAN has been released under investigation following a stabbing in Southampton city centre.
A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following a knife attack in St Mary Street.
On Tuesday night a 36-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
According to police, an investigation was now been launched and officers are carrying further enquiries.
Meanwhile, the 44-year-old man who was arrested has been released on bail.
However, he is due to appear at Southampton Central Police Station on September 7.
Following the incident at around 6.15pm on Tuesday, St Mary Street was taped off.
Police also ramped up patrols in the area on Wednesday.
In an earlier comment, Inspector Al Dineley, said: “We know there was a large police presence in the area last night which may have caused concern amongst some residents.
“We want to reassure you that tackling serious violence and weapon-related crime, remains a priority for us.
“We would like to hear from anyone with information in relation to this incident, and specifically, anyone with dashcam footage who was driving through the area at the time.
“Please call 101 and quote ref 44210318142 if you can help."
