A SOUTHAMPTON family has been left devastated after their pet dog was killed in an alleged hit and run incident.
Gemini the French Bulldog was killed instantly during her late-night walk on Ellwood Avenue.
Her owner, Alison Hawkins, had been taking her and two other dogs out before 'bedtime'.
However, a van "came out of nowhere" hitting the two-year-old pet.
It is then said to have sped off down Marston Road without stopping.
Alison, 45, has been left devastated and hasn't stopped crying since Gemini died at around 11.30pm on Wednesday, according to her daughter, Beck.
Beck, 26, said: "It's really sad. I think how awful for them to cause so much destruction.
"A van came flying out of nowhere. It killed her instantly.
"It's devastating."
Beck says her mum owns two other 'Frenchies'. Lilo and Hudson.
And, that the family fell in love with Gemini when she was born.
The 26-year-old estate agent added: "I just want the person to come forward.
"If it was an accident, it would be easier to accept.
"It could have been someone's child. It's a residential area. You can't drive like that."
A police spokesperson said: "Our officers received a report of a hit and run involving a dog and a van at 11.48pm on Wednesday 11 August on Ellwood Close, Southampton.
"It was reported that a small white van collided with the animal and then drove away from the scene. Sadly, the dog dies as a result of its injuries.
"Were you in the area at the time? Did you see what happened? Perhaps you have dash-cam or Ring doorbell footage?"
Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, quoting 44210320017.
