A WOMAN was 'violently assaulted' during a robbery in a Southampton park.
Polce say the victim was attacked and robbed by a man while walking near Miller's Pond in the Sholing area of the city.
He approached her and tried to snatch her bag last night.
However, the victim was able to escape and raise the alarm before police were called.
A police spokesperson said: "We were called just before 6.15pm last night (August 16) to a report of a woman having been robbed near Millers Pond, Sholing. A man had approached the woman and tried to grab her bag, she then ran away.
"Officers attended, including Police Dog Ernie who was able to find the location of the incident.
A female was violently assaulted and robbed on her way home through a wooded beauty spot, managing to escape her attacker and raise the alarm. "Enquiries are ongoing. If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area around this time or has any information, then they should call 101, quoting the reference 44210326673."
Meanwhile, a post from the PD Ernie social media account said: "A female was violently assaulted and robbed on her way home through a wooded beauty spot, managing to escape her attacker and raise the alarm."
