THE owner of a new pop up hotel that was granted a drinks license has apologised to angry customers.

On August 8, the seafront facility called the Calshot Pop Up Hotel was granted a drinks license by New Forest District Council despite safety fears from the local lifeboat station and objections from local councillor Alexis McEvoy.

Now though, customers have requested that their reservations be cancelled after a stream of complaints was targeted at the new holiday destination which describes itself as "the ultimate transient accommodation for destinations and events".

The site off of Jack Maynard Road opened on July 9 and now concerns about the site from previous guests have been voiced on social media.

One customer branded the site "a disaster" and continued to say: "Next to a power station, with an average beach where you can watch ferries leave Southampton Port (nice!) the site quickly becomes a quagmire when it rains.

"But all that could be overlooked if it weren't for the toilets and showers (there are far too few for the number of campers - although they are generally clean) and the restaurant which is chaos, with a limited (and average) menu due to staff shortages.

"The site isn't particularly safe for kiddies either - the restaurant is right by the entrance where cars pull into the site."

Another said: "Yes disappointing - basic things were very much missing. When you pay £150 a night for sleeping outside you would expect some level of service."

Now though, the owner of the hotel, Mark Sorrill has taken to Instagram to apologise for the issues that customers have raised.

In a post on the hotels account, the owner said: "We feel it is important to update all guests, both past and future, on some areas of the experience we are offering where we know we have very regrettably fallen short of our own high standards and clearly failed to meet expectations.

"Firstly we are very sorry. Secondly, we have read every message, comment and email, and are attempting to respond to everyone as fast as we can in chronological order."

The post went on to say that the company had faced a "number of unforeseen challenges", noting the current recruitment situation in the hospitality sector currently and said the hotel is working "incredibly hard to resolve the issues".

It also said that due to a "lean team" room service isn't being provided, and that the menu had been streamlined in the restaurant to allow for lower wait times.
