THE golden arches of McDonald’s are famous across the world for their fast-food and love them or hate them, we’ve all had one.

From breakfast to lunch and dinner, pregnancy cravings to hangover cures - there’s a moment in everyone’s life where all you want is a McDonald’s.

Across Southampton there are seven McDonald’s restaurants - some with better reviews than others.

Thanks to Google Reviews we can see which McDonald’s have the highest (and lowest) ratings, from previous customers.

To save you the hassle, we've sorted through all of the reviews of the golden arches in the conurbation.

Here are the best and worst:

West Quay

4.0 stars out of 5 based on 38 Google reviews

The fast-food restaurant in the heart of West Quay comes out top when it comes to happy customers.

A recent happy customer said: “Great place to stop and have something to eat while in Southampton. Order on the screen and collect from the counter. Good, varied menu.”

One five-star review reads: “This has got to be the best McDonalds I have ever experienced the staff were very helpful and the food the best I have ever had at a McDonalds. Lots of fresh lettuce in my Chicken legend and the fries were perfect.”

Southampton Esplanade

3.7 stars out of 5 based on 4,522 Google reviews

Coming in second place, is the busy McDonalds just off West Quay retail park, this restaurant has the most reviews.

Customers were singing praise for the fast food chain with one writing: “ Great staff, really friendly and helpful, food was great too looked like someone actually took some care to make it nicely, thank you.”

One visitor was impressed with their Covid measures, writing: “Very nice service. Considering all the covid restrictions and problems, the workers work twice as hard and they did an amazing job keeping us safe and being prompt. Especially the employee that manages seating! Nice and spacious McDonald's too.”

Eastleigh

3.6 stars out of 5 based on 1,009 Google reviews

Last week a customer visited and said: “Been a while but as good as ever although chips a little cold.”

Another added: “Not a bad maccies, pleasant staff, can't say much for the customers they were rude. Hot food, quick service, clean areas and socially distanced.”

Black Cat/ Swaythling

3.5 stars out of 5 based on 2,268 Google reviews

One customer said: “Nice Mcdonalds, however it can get very busy at times. Always go before the rush hour, as they may have run out of some burgers. Area offers wireless charging at tables for phones, as well as large family tables too.”

But recent reviews have not been as good with one customer stating: “Recently visited this restaurant the place was reasonably clean. A lot of staff but no organisation from management at all. The food was stacking up in the heat tray for the 20 minutes meaning food was not being packed in order. i stood watching staff wondering around instead of packing orders the queues were building. I then said to a member of staff about this and the manager took over packing. Good location but needs better management skills and team work is important. food was not warm when we received it.”

Millbrook

3.5 stars out of 5 based on 1,458 Google reviews

In July one reviewer said: “Went to grab a drink for the wife, haven't been there in a very long time! But is very clean and tidy, smart, and very modern! Very fast service, took 60 seconds from ordering then to the table! Took me by surprise. Definitely will be coming back! Disabled friendly and easy to manoeuvre around with wide Isles!”

But another customer had a very different experience last week, writing: “You get what you pay for at McDonald's, but you expect to be served quickly and efficiently. This is far from what we experienced going through the drive through at 8pm on a Wednesday evening.  Extremely slow service and they had run out of quarter pounders!”

Totton

3.5 stars out of 5 based on 1,204 Google reviews

An unhappy customer wrote: “Without doubt the worst one I have ever been in.... cold food ,wait ages, items missed and often wrong. Twenty odd workers, all tripping over each other, getting nothing done properly...Utterly shambolic. You used to be able to walk in, get served and be eating hot food in under 10 minutes... Not any more.”

Another disappointed visitor added: “Every time I've visited they have always missed something from my order I've never gotten exactly what I've ordered especially through the drive through you can guarantee to be missing something. I gave the 2 star as the staff are always very polite when you complain.”

Shirley

3.4 stars out of 5 based on 1,602 Google reviews

Coming in at the bottom of the list is the Shirley based restaurant.

One week ago an angry customer said: “Really the slowest dirtiest McDonalds I have been to. Cold burger, warm milkshake. Oh dear.”

Another shocked customer said: “Cold and tasted like rubber! Not going back there again.”

A third upset customer added: “The food was cold, there were no straws for the drinks and milkshakes, no ketchup no sauces absolutely ridiculous, how do they expect people to drink their milkshakes, and this is the second time their staff in Shirley High Street has done! The delivery was fantastic but the McDonald's staff are not good.”
