A PROPOSAL to install new signs outside one of the shops in a Hampshire conservation area have been rejected.
New Forest District Council has refused an application relating to part of the awarding-winning Furlong Shopping Centre in Ringwood.
A former furniture store is about to be occupied by Arboro Lounge, which will offer all-day dining.
The application to install new signage sparked objections from the town council and the Ringwood Society.
In a letter to NFDC the town council said illuminated signs in a conservation area would be "inappropriate".
"This includes the back-lit Arboro Lounge lettering, the internally-illuminated orange protruding sign and the two new wall lights," it said.
