A Southampton road-trip route has been named as one of the most 'dog-friendly' in the country. 

Researchers for dog-food maker tails.com have ranked the top 10 'woof-worthy' road trips across the UK, based on five factors. 

These factors were: Dog-friendly accommodation, vets within 2km, Dog-friendly restaurants, dog-friendly attractions and walking trails.

Each road trip was scored out of 50 based on the amenities at each stopping point along the route. 

According to the research, Plymouth to Southampton landed in fourth place, scoring 27.6 out of the possible 50. 

The road trip has seven main stopping points, including, Plymouth, Dartmoor National Park, Exeter, Dorchester, Bournemouth, New Forest and Southampton.

The route has a total of 360 dog-friendly Airbnbs, 86 vets, 162 dog-friendly restaurants, 1 dog-friendly activity and 354 walking trails.
