MORE than 3,600 people have signed a petition calling for average speed cameras to be installed on a New Forest road.
The online petition was launched following a spate of animal accidents on Roger Penny Way - one of the worst routes in the district for collisions involving ponies, sheep and donkeys.
One of the incidents occurred on New Year's Eve, when four ponies were killed by a single vehicle.
The petition has been signed by a total of 3,675 people, which means it has to be debated by New Forest District Council.
Campaigner Gilly Jones, of the New Forest Roads Awareness group, said: "I am keeping the petition live for another five weeks to try to get even more to sign and give us more clout when it comes up for debate.
"Thank you to everyone who has signed so far. Please continue the support."
The petition cites the deaths of three donkeys, two sheep and four ponies on Roger Penny Way and the history of animal casualties in he area.
It calls on the district council to support calls for the introduction of average speed cameras on the route.
